Brent Rice is our newest extracurricular coordinator. He is in charge of overseeing all extracurriculars here at Harding. That includes all of our sports, clubs, and all other after-school activities. He will be an administrator rather than a coach or instructor. He loves spending time with family via going to his kids’ events and activities, hunting, watching hockey, and playing golf. Rice says he “looks forward to helping develop a new structure for athletics and extracurricular activities in the district” because he believes getting our students more involved can help our attendance, academics, and behavior. He said he is excited to get to know students, staff, and the members of the community as well. He says he’s still getting to know the area, but he is very happy with our people. He says he loves our clear sense of community and almost everyone he meets has a long history in the area. He said this is go
Our new coordinator is originally from South Central Michigan, but has lived in quite a few places across the country. Most recently however, he lived in a small town outside of Grand Rapids, in West Michigan. He came to Harding because we had an opening and he had an extensive background in the position he’s in now, athletics. He used to have an administrative job in professional baseball training and developing umpires. But he then left the job to take a position in the high school athletic association in Michigan without much of an idea on what he was getting into. He quickly found that he enjoyed it and loved seeing kids be connected to their school and communities even outside of the classroom via sports. He wanted to continue to give kids this opportunity and it landed him here at Harding. If he were to have another job, he says he probably would have stayed where he was in professional baseball.
