Does putting up Christmas decorations earlier make you happier?
Some say yes, others say no. Experts however- say yes.
Several say that Christmas season starts the day after Thanksgiving, but officials say that putting your decorations up earlier can make you happier. Research suggests that US residents will be friendlier and get along with their neighbors. Putting your decorations up can also evoke a sense of nostalgia and comforting memories.
As it gets colder, acting happier can make you happier. Therapists call this cognitive behavior therapy, basically by acting like you're happy, it will boost your mood. So if you put up your decorations to act like you’re happy, you are more likely to be happy.
A form was sent out to students and staff at Harding and we received 207 responses. Out of those 207 responses, 122(58.9%) people think that the Christmas season starts after Thanksgiving, 40(19.3%) feel that the Christmas season starts on December 1st and 45(21.7%) of people think the Christmas season starts November 1st.
If you’re feeling down this holiday season, possibly putting up your decorations early will help brighten your mood.
