Club Spotlight: Pride Club

pattyforeman87

This month’s featured club is Pride Club. “Pride Club is a group for students to go to that are allies or in the LGBTQ+ community,” says Mrs. Vansickle, one of the teachers in charge of the group.

This year marks year 2 at Harding, with it originally being started at Grant by the students, including the sophomore class. The teacher leaders are Mrs. Vansickle, Mr. King, Ms. Littell, and Ms. Riedlinger with the main student leader being Alex Maynard. The club meets every Tuesday morning during HQ in the community room. The club is open to anyone and everyone.

Currently, the club is becoming part of the national GSA organization. They have members that are all doing different things: activists that will hopefully partner with Out Loud at OSUM and the Marion Pride Group and the support group goal of getting Safe Zone trained, which they will use to teach the teachers here at Harding to help with negativity students may face. Mrs. Vansickle is “excited to work at a school where this kind of stuff is supported” and is here to help the club any way she can.
