Club Spotlight: Venus

pattyforeman87

The featured club this month is Venus. “Venus is a club that embraces femininity and allows for any type of people to hang out and just have a second home.” Says Noni Holden. Others say Venus is for anyone to feel welcome and have a comfortable space to ask questions if they need to. This is the second year of Venus, but everyone has high hopes that members will keep it running.

The teacher leader of Venus is Mrs. Wolfe, but Venus has four student leaders which are: Lake June, Theo Meek, Ki Walter, and Noni Holden. All of them love running this club. Mrs. Wolfe even says, “look how passionate they are; you can see it for sure.”

Venus is a club for people to come in and feel comfortable. Venus was once a club about embracing femininity, now it’s a club about embracing everyone and has done many things to make everyone feel safe. Last year, Venus gave a presentation about the importance of pronouns to staff, showing them how to be more respectful to students' identity. The effect of this was when school started back up, teachers asked students what they wanted to be called and what pronouns they preferred. Student leader Theo says “a lot of teachers became a lot more respectful to students and their pronouns and their gender identity after we did that... which provided a safe atmosphere for students.”

Venus started up last year with the idea coming from graduated student Dulce Dye with her friends Maddie and Lake. Without them, and former teacher leader Mrs. Panamarczuk, Venus wouldn’t be possible.

Joining Venus is really easy, the meetings are after school on Thursdays from 2:30 till

3:30 in room 114. You just show up and Venus welcomes you with open arms.
