Empowered For Diversity

On September 27th, a group of students from Harding High School attended the Empowered for Diversity event which was held at the Marion County Fairgrounds & Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Out of the 49 students who attended, freshman Keylen Collins, says that the field trip was based on “Black business owners who came in to talk about their business and the jobs they’ve been involved in.” Although the trip presented many different people with their many different careers, Keylens favorite part was “meeting the business owners of Howard Hanna, the real estate agency” as well as “meeting some of the people that work for my dad”.

The reason Collins attended the Empowered For Diversity trip was because he “thought it would be a cool experience… to learn about black culture and what it took for them to get there” also to “learn their stories about how they got so big in their business”. After hearing more about the trip, we now see the importance of getting these students involved in activities which include such diversity and surround them around people who are just like them, or maybe not at all.
