Harding High School is no stranger to physical altercations, but is it getting out of hand? Harding has had a fair share of fights so far this year–1 to 2 per week by some claims. What can we do about this?
There are some things that could keep kids from getting into fights in high school.
Some teachers think that kids think they can get away with starting fights because it is only 10 days of school they are missing, but if they get in bigger trouble for doing these things on school grounds, they wouldn’t fight in the first place.
Make the punishment more scary for high schoolers. Now, if they get into a fight and then get suspended for 10 days, they will just come back and do it again. Instead they should be automatically expelled for the rest of the year. This may seem harsh, but something has to change.
What some students think about the fights:
-“Fights are funny and cause no drama from the school,” one student said.
-“Why do kids get into fights thinking that it is going to stop the drama but in reality it makes it worse?”
“But let's be honest, some of the things kids fight about are hilarious like I heard that someone fought someone over a shoe, like, what do high schoolers do if something serious actually comes up? Is it going to be World War 3?”
Background
School fights mostly occur based on drama and teens miss communicating gossip for example a boyfriend or old friends going bad evening bullying. School fights usually don't start till middle school to high school ,most people say that in high school no one cares but kids seem to care more about image and who your friends are.
