Marion, Ohio was founded in 1822. The town was named after General Francis Marion. He
was one of the most triumphant Military leaders during the American Revolutionary war. The general was born in Berkeley County, South Carolina. strategies. Marion used something called “guerrilla warfare,” where small groups of fighters would engage in
illegitimate military actions such as harassment and sabotage. Thus, it gave men more freedom, and allowed them to stay at home, protect their families, and the communities around them. During the Revolutionary War, Francis led around 50 men in a raid against the British. They hid in a dense brush and attacked an enemy camp, successfully rescuing 150 American prisoners.
