Mrs. White had taught at Harding before, left, taught theater for eight years in Columbus, and was a Special Ed teacher for three years in Delaware but realized she was really happy here at Harding and decided to come back. She is now the Expanded Learning Program teacher here.
Mrs. White says that she knew she wanted to be a teacher probably when she was around 19 or 20 years old. She initially began teaching drama and theater but realized she loved working with IEP (Individualized Education Plan) students more, so she went back to school to become a Special Education teacher. “Finding ways to help [the students] learn was super fun,” she remarked.
So far, her favorite part about the job is the students. When asked if she has a favorite student, she said with a laugh, “Every teacher has a favorite student! I have a list. That’s the best way to describe it.” But when it comes to her least favorite part about the school, she said that cell phones are a problem a lot of the time. “I think [the cell phone problem] is probably popular among teachers,” she says.
