The Harding marching band has had a very interesting year. They received some very good ratings at our local competition OMEA in 2022. In their last contest they received a good rating from all 7 judges. The band traveled to Tampa Florida and participated in the Reliaquest Bowl game festival and won a performance with a mass band performance at the halftime show at the game.
Harding choir/ singers
OMEA is a large group contest, held at Bellefontaine High School on March 3rd and 4th. But with the bus schedule it is very difficult to prepare for these things but the choirs are keeping a strong head and a good attitude. After the Bellefontaine High School competition, Maryville high school held the final competition on March 11th. The next choir concert is April 30. It is the spring concert at the end of the year and it is senior recognition night for all choir students.
Orchestra OMEA
Marion Harding High School’s concert orchestra performed at the OMEA music competition on Friday, February 17th, hosted at Findlay High School. Harding’s orchestra consists of 26 players, with Mr. Stephen Patterson as the director and Mr. Samuel Weibel as assistant director. At OMEA, orchestras will play a selection of prepared pieces before an array of judges, then move on to a sight reading, where a piece none of the players or directors have seen before will be performed in front of a single judge. The performances are scored on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being the highest score, and 5 being the lowest. “I thought we were good enough to get a one,” Patterson says. “It all depended on if we performed at our best, or if we let our nerves get to us.” In the end, the orchestra scored an overall 1. Patterson expresses that he is very proud of his students for putting in such hard work and effort, and states, “Everyone should hold their heads (and violins/violas) up high. Be proud!”
