On Monday, November 15 during the city school board meeting, Dr. Iarrusi officially recommended that the mask mandate on Marion City Schools be lifted after Thanksgiving break. This was in direct response to the COVID 19 vaccine becoming available for 5-11 year olds. When asked whether they wanted to mandate the vaccine or not, Dr. Iarrusi said, “I don't think so.”
The school board approved this recommendation.
Generally the school's staff seems to be in favor of this change. One person even cited the mask mandate as a “...intrusion of civil liberties.”
Some, however, feel uncomfortable since removing the mandate could cause more sickness in schools. Ultimately, how much damage this change could cause is still unknown.
