According to the head custodian Ed Blackburn, every 3 faucet seats costs 800 dollars, and every broken toilet seat costs 21 dollars. With the large amount of damaged bathrooms these costs add up for the school. This has caused the staff of herding to consider other options for controlling the mischief.
Multiple teachers had teased the idea of letting Upperclassmen monitor the halls however nothing has seemed to come of this. Miss Pace explained that “...we discussed that with...our other stakeholders it was determined that that's probably not the best route to go because we don’t want to put anybody in a...in a situation where they would be set up to have conflict with someone else…”. This problem has caused the project to be put on hold until the logistics of training students to properly handle conflict has been mapped out. Miss Pace, and varsity H have been working on other disciplinary plans in the meantime.
A new idea created to help stop the vandalism is an anonymous tip line in the form of a google forum that will be shared to students. The forum documents the area the vandalism took place, the time, a description of the event, and what the student looks like in order to help hold students accountable for their actions.
Thankfully the mischief at Harding has largely decreased despite the circulation of a supposed list containing plans for the vandalism in the months after the original wave. That's not to say all vandalism has stopped though. Recently there was another bathroom that was shut down. However the bathroom is now operational. Make sure to report any suspicious activity and or vandalism to a teacher or report it through the tip line as soon as possible so that we can keep the problem from becoming large again.
