The calendars for next year have been sent out to the teachers to vote on what the school year will be like next year.
One day that wasn’t on the calendar this year is still not on the new ones for next year which is Popcorn Friday. Now the only reason Popcorn Friday wasn’t on the calendar for this year was because of Covid. Dr. Iarussi has stated that “Popcorn Friday will now just be a normal day and there are only so many days available if we want to start and end consistently, have winter and spring breaks and still end school before Memorial Day to allow for summer testing and summer school.”
The calendars are created by the district then presented to the teachers. The teachers vote on the calendar they think is best then the board approves the calendar that had the most votes.
The first calendar has students starting on August 16, 2022 where students would have a long winter break and a long spring break. The second calendar has students starting on August 23, 2022 with a shorter winter break and longer spring break. The last calendar has students starting on August 23, 2022 with a longer winter break and shorter spring break. For all of the winter breaks school would resume on January 3rd, 2023.
The calendars are created by the Assistant Superintendent Jennifer Lawson and she gives them to the board. Then presented to the teachers to vote on the calendar they want but ultimately the board votes on the calendars to choose the next school year. The board will approve the next calendar at the next board meeting on February 14, 2022.
The calendars must include 184 teacher and student working days and the year must meet the ODE minimum hours required for students. The Board of Education (BOE) policy requires a public hearing. During the public hearing there will be a point where information will be suggested that would dictate another calendar option.v
