Tornados In Ohio What??

pattyforeman87

Over the past months Ohio has been through a lot of weird weather systems and the question is why is that, why has Ohio had more tornadoes recently.

It has been over 50 years since Ohio’s last F5 tornado hit, in 1974 Ohio had one of the worst tornadoes in Ohio's history this tornado was classified as a F5 tornado hitting Xenia, Ohio.

This tornado caused damage to over 27,000 families and the critical loss of their homes, “President Richard Nixon declared 10 states disaster zones.”( FoxWeather). The tornadoes that hit F2 tornado causing three confirmed deaths in Ohio, at the Mary Rutan Health Center in Logan County city of Bellefontaine has confirmed over 26 injuries from the tornado that struck around Indian Lake. The National Weather Service had confirmed that the F2 tornado had struck near Orchard Island in Logan County, there was heavy damage to the island all around it.

A study of 1921–1995 tornadoes concluded almost one-fourth of all significant tornadoes occur in this area. Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Indiana, Michigan, and western Ohio are sometimes included in Tornado Alley.

Tornadoes destroy just about everything in their path once they touch the ground, a tornado can happen from a severe thunderstorm for this to form a tornado it requires three things, moisture in the air, rising air, and wind shear.

The moisture part happens when humid air from the Gulf of Mexico and is moved to the north over land. Now rising air happens two different ways, first, instability means that there are differences in the atmosphere that cause air to rise on its own. The second way happens when a boundary such as a cold front, dryline or the outflow of another storm,

forces air to rise.
